The landmarks of Aegean beauty

The cosmopolitan Mykonos

Discover the wonders of Mykonos

One of the truly magical experiences of Greece, the island of Mykonos is best known for its chic style, fashionable nightlife and beautiful golden beaches. But there is so much more to discover during your stay at Santa Marina.

The island’s largest town – called Mykonos Town or Chora – is a picture-postcard setting on the west coast. The town is sophisticated and cosmopolitan, but also traditional and authentically Greek. Narrow cobblestone laneways combine classic tavernas and chapels, along with luxury boutiques selling designer fashions from Greece and around the globe. Pelicans are the island’s official mascots, and you’ll frequently spot these friendly birds being petted and fed by locals.

When exploring Mykonos Island, keep your eye out for some hidden gems; the picturesque Paraportiani Church with its unusual architecture and its pristine magnificence is one of the most photographed churches in Europe. Then, the Armenistis Lighthouse, a charming spot for viewing the sunset on the north-western coast of Mykonos. Last, but not least, you may run into the island’s pet celebrity, Peter the Pelican, a beloved figure that frequents the alleys of Chora and never misses a photo opportunity!

Opened in 1902, this small museum houses numerous artefacts that were unearthed during the island’s excavations. Its collection ranges from the Prehistoric to the Hellenistic period. Highlights include pottery, statues and jewellery.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit this magnificent archaeological site, featuring a complete ancient town. Just a 20-minute speedboat ride from Santa Marina, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the planet’s most important mythological and historical locations. It is said that Delos was the birthplace of the twins, Apollo and Artemis. The island overflows with historical discoveries, including iconic Naxos stone lions, intricate mosaics and the columns of the House of Dionysus.
